The unexpected expat blogger behind Quil Maro Neste

Hi there, I'm Miguel
I'm a project manager. a parent. and an expat living in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Portugal wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar processes, new routines, elevated expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of learning through practice. Gradually, routines settled in. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built Quil Maro Neste
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation advice or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real-life experiences in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical insights from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
- Updated whenever real changes occur
This site isn't:
- A tourism authority resource
- Sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Portugal continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, please feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Miguel
